I believe it is an old German word meaning either "Reward" or "High Reward". I think 
it fits perfectly for the Miata.

I heard this problem may be caused by a little oil or water leaking into speedometer 
mechanism. The cable should be pulled out and checked as well as the speedometer 
guts. Since I've never done this, I can't help you on how to do it.

Can't help you on the type of wood, but the Miata Club magazine has a lot of products
