    I have driven 61000+ miles without a spare. I put a battery driven
    air pump where the jack once was, tucked in a plugging kit, and
    together with my AAA membership have no fear. Besides I drive on
    clean California freeways. I expect at worst to pump up a slow
    leak, plug a fast one which should be easy to find even in place,
    and call for aid after a blowout. 

    Meanwhile I've lightened the car about 1% and gained significant
    trunk space.
