Anybody here old enough to remember Talbot mirrors? Back in the sixties when I cut my teeth on British roadsters, I installed a pair of these way-cool bullet-shaped chrome-plated racing-style rear view mirrors on each one of the cars I owned (MGB/AHSprite/ Datsun1600/Datsun2000), and I'd like to put a pair on my Miata. As I recall, genuine Talbots came in three flavors. There were large and small versions with center pedestals and another one with a swoopier "faired-in" pedestal. Since I want to make sure that the base covers the standard mounting points and I want as much mirror surface as I can get, I think I'm looking for a pair of the large center pedestal models (I never liked the swoopier ones much). Does anyone know where I might find a pair? The sources I used back then, places like MG Mitten and Vilem B. Haan, seem to have disappeared, and I don't see anything like what I'm looking for in any of the catalogs I have at hand. I have a hunch that they must still be available for the classic/restoration market, so if you have any leads, I'd sure appreciate hearing about them. A pair of these mirrors has become the holy grail of accessories for my Miata. I'm pursuing the retro look ("Cobra" stripes and Minilite-lookalike eight-spoke Panasports), and Talbot mirrors will complete the package. My apologies to readers on the autox list. I realize that this message has scant solo-related content, but there are enough of you out there who might know where to look (Phil E and Mark B, for example) that I thought I'd give it a try. My fellow Miata folks may remember a brochure that one of the parts houses -- I think it was Millen -- put out maybe a year and a half ago in which they floated the idea of offering such mirrors and asked for input. I've called them a couple of times asking if they'd followed up on it, and each time the answer has been "not yet" so I think it's time to look elsewhere. Thanks in advance for any leads you can give me. Please reply via private e-mail since I'd guess that most of the folks on either list couldn't give a rat's ass about what mirrors I've got on my car. - Steve Bruun (aka 22cs)
