Wasn't that an old Cord, and didn't the engine blow when he (I thought) 
pushed the button!  I remember a movie where some guy pushed a button 
(or as you say maybe pulled a knob) to engage the supercharger and the 
engine blew.  I seem to remember that it left them stranded on the side 
of the road way out in the sticks.
