I got my Red '90' used with 7K miles on it.
I'm now at ~50K miles. My cumulative average
is 26.5 mpg. I commute daily 18 miles roundtrip
on Northern Calif. freeways and drive around
town during the week. On weekends we look for
the windy roads in the mountains or go crusing.
Most of this is top down. 

I have gotten as good as 33 on the highway
with the hardtop on (running 65 to 75 mph). The 
worst mileage I have recorded is is 22.76. I did 
notice my weekly mileage decline by 10 to 15% last
winter when the service stations did their seasonal
switch to the MBTE'd fuel.
