How on earth does a dashboard "develop" a dent?  Especially one covered under 
warranty!  I've never heard of mechanical creep happening in thermoplastics on 
scale noticeable to the human eye!

I once had a 1980 626 which developed a minor dent in the dash  which
was replaced under waranty.  I think that it also had such a plate
which covered two large bolts or screws which is part of the
attachment mechanism of the dash to the body.  If someone has a Miata
workshop manual you could check and see if the plate covers similar
bolts in the Miata.
