> Alex asks about drivers schools, ranging from informal (CarGuys) to serious (SCCA). I have had an incredible amount of fun with my Miata over the past four years at "club" schools at Summit Point in West Virginia. Specifically, the National Capital Chapter of the BMW Car Club of America usually holds four one-day (some two-day) drivers schools at Summit Point each year. You do not have to own a BMW to enter or to join the club. (BMW club members get first-dibbs on the school sign-ups.) I do not know what the cost will be for 1994, but it is usually less than $100 per school for what amounts to about 100-120 miles of track time. I instruct for the Club, and I can assure you that everyone has fun and each student gets a lot of personal attention. Students learn in their own cars, but I often take my student out in the Miata to show him or her (the "hers" are actually better students) around the track at speed. One caveat for you: all convertibles that enter the school must have a functional (not cosmetic) roll bar. If you want, I can get you further information once the 1994 season is on the calendar.
