MICHAEL SIMMONS RESPONDED: I was at Monster Motorsports while they were preparing the Mega Monster for its first public appearance last summer. I haven't seen one on the road yet. While the Monster V-8 Miatas (the weak little normally aspirated 5 liter) at least still *looks* like a Miata, the Mega Monster bore little resemblance. The car was *extremely* impressive, though, IMHO. Everything I saw going into it appeared first class and balanced with the power of the engine (if that's even possible). They told me it would *embarass* F40s. It's not a Miata any more, though. Mike Simmons 90 White and weak SURE ENOUGH ISNT A MIATA ANY MORE. I got ahold of a two page write up from sport compact car/dec '93 that did a comparison with the Viper, ZR1 Vette, 911 Turbo, Testarossa and Lamborghini Diablo. Few figures follow: Car HP 0-60 1/4 mi top spd 60-0 mpg cost Miata* 400 3.9 12.2 174 118' 18.2 $ 45 K Viper 400 4.8 13.1 160 156' 12.0 $ 55 K ZR1 375 5.6 13.9 176 142' 19.0 $ 65 K Porsche 320 4.6 12.9 168 124' 15.8 $ 96 K Ferrari 421 4.7 12.9 192 125 12.0 $195 K Diablo 492 4.5 13.3 202 142 11.0 $239 K Apparently in mopped up in the skid pad and thru a slalom. And all we really needed was the V-6... cb ******************************** Craig Blakely, Assoc. Director Public Policy Research Institute H.C.
