I was at our annual SOCALM meeting at the Mazda Headquarters in Irvine. At the end of the meeting, Rod Bymaster told us of two new models to be released sometime this year. Both prototypes were in the parking lot. One was an R model prototype. It had one of those Cobraesque twin racing stripes down the center of the car. It is a dealer option. Interesting, but I never thought much of those stripes, especially when they start to peel and crack. Had larger wheels, Bilstein shocks, larger sway bars. The other was the M model prototype. This one had a new color, the color that is used on the RX-7. I can't remember what the color was called, but it was xxxxx blue. If the sun hits the paint dead on, it looks green, any other angle and the color looks deep blue. This prototype also had the GLASS rear window and chome wheels. Can't remember if it had anything else special about it, but it was pretty cool. R model should be released within the next couple of months. Don't know about the availability about the M model, but it is not a limited edition like the BRG, but it just may be a special edition. ------------ Robert Holland Southwest Fisheries Science Center robert@caliban.ucsd.edu
