From: Alan Dahl Subject: headlight motor problems Date: Mon, 17 Jan 1994 12:44:45 -0500
I'd been having a problem with my driver's side headlight motor making quite a clunk-clunk-clunk sound as the lights were retracted so this weekend I removed the headlight retractor motor and disassembled it (BTW: There is a right way and a wrong way to do this and I learned both, ask me if you ever need to do this myself). It turned out what had happened is that one of the motor brush magnets had cracked in two horizontally and a large sliver had fallen down into the gearing. I removed the chunk and re-assembled the motor (after several false starts) with the remaining 1 1/2 magnets and it works fine now. I suspect that this was just a fluke but I was wondering if anyone else had seen this problem? I'm going to see if I can find a source for new brushes (either Mazda or somewhere else) but I suspect I'll just have to hope that it'll last and resign myself for paying for a new motor when the brushes finally go. --- ___ __ ___ Alan Dahl | alan.dahl@mccaw.com -or- /_ / / / Analysts International Co. | adahl@axysdev.nwest.mccaw.com / / _/_ /___ 10655 N.E. 4th St. Suite 804 | (NeXTMail OK) Bellevue, WA 98004 | PH: (206) 803-4496 | FAX: (206) 803-4901
