Fellow fiends: Talk of snow tires and batteries and four wheel drifts and such has me thinking about... *SALT* :-( The high today will be in the -1 to +5 range in the Motor City today and my red '91 is now a red and white '91 with all the road salt used here. I just barely remember my electrochemistry (and I sold my chem text for some bombers back in '73) so, may I ask a question: As long as the temp is well below freezing, and the humidity is hovering around 0%, there is no salt induced corosion going on, Right? I mean, the corrosion (electrical reactions on metals in the presence of ions) needs the water to conduct electrons yes? So, with the exception of in the engine compartment and perhaps the tranny tunnel, it is probably Too Cold for the salt to be doing any damage? I am not keen on taking the car to a car wash in these temps just to wash salt off (and then drive home and get salt all over the car) so someone, please, just ease my mind and tell me that the above pseudo-chemical statements are correct. BTW: what annoys me about people pulling up close behind me is the glare of their headlights in my mirrors. It always seems as if they have their brights on (sigh). Keep the faith, Will Zehring "Your eye-lids are getting heavy." Yves-what's-his-name in "On a clear day..." P.S. I don't mean to be gruesome, but any interesting reports from So.Cal. subscribers?
