I put in the clearwater amp. Except for the turnoff pop, I like it. And I
solve the turnoff pop by not turning off the radio. I just turn it all the
way down. It's a lot cheaper than installing $50 worth of line filters. :)

No. The factory head unit has only speaker-level outputs, not line-level.

IMO, the trunk is a good place, because it's a large open area, and amps
generate heat.

I also have the clearwater door speakers, which I also like. They required
the use of a nibbler to make small cutouts for the speaker frame, and
drilling new screw holes, but the connectors are standard Mazda/Ford
speaker connectors. Crutchfield, for example, can supply them very easily.
