From: jeffh@ada1.SSD.CSD.HARRIS.COM (Jeff Hollensen) Subject: Help on power antenna Date: Wed, 12 Jan 1994 08:43:56 -0500
I recently purchased the power antenna from the Mazda dealer and am trying to hook it up to me after-market stereo system that I've had installed for quite a while. The antenna simply refuses to function (i.e. extend). I was wondering if anybody can tell me the signals that antenna is expecting. Here is what I see looking at the female portion of the harness that the antenna plugs into: /------- top (the tab that connects them) v nn +--------------------+ | oo A oo C | | | | | | | | oo B oo D | | | +--------------------+ A (green with yellow stripe): The wire marked A is hot when the power is on AND the radio is on. This is normal for many antennas, but I do know (I've been told) that the Mazda antenna expects a ground completion circuit here. This is not a problem and I already have purchased a relay. The problem is that when I test this by simply tying this wire (A) to the car ground, the antenna does not go up and I expected it to. B (red with black stripe): The wire marked B has no connectivity that I can find, whatsoever. The wire marked C is hot when the power is on. The wire marked D is hot when the power is on. Can anybody shed some light on this situation? I'd be really grateful for any help.
