Frank Potter asked about interest in a more technical/ad-oriented newsletter..... Count me in!! I only got one issue of the official miata mag. I'd really rather see more *driving* oriented talk than nerdy *stuff*. Take a look at (pardon, but..) the Harley Owner's Group magazine which has annual listings of the best road to drive in every state, parts to buy and performance way-cool stuff (as well as clothing, of course). But anyway, my favorite part of the net is hearing about technical stuff and improvised stuff (like a home camber set-up that was printed on another auto-list). I'd be interested in such a newsletter... and Will Zehrig asks about miata activities... I didn't notice where you lived but a popular driving activity around here is the Winery tours. This can fill a whole day with driving down pretty roads and stopping every now and then for a taste of wine. In Massachusetts you've got the Patriot Trail stuff, and most anywhere you can find cool roads. Add a gimmick like a clue rally; no times involved, you have to find all your "tickets" based on the instructions and finish in a "reasonable" time. (our instructions would go something like; drive 1.2 miles. At intersection, turn north. Drive .075 miles. Look where the water goes... and the tickets would be clipped to a culvert. Or they'd be in a lightning-struck tree or under a stone cairn. Yeah, it was in the woods...) Still, you don't need anyone doing check-points on the course. Just a sweeper for the lost souls and the un-found tickets so you don't litter. Or a poker run, where you collect playing cards at each check-point in sealed envelopes (you could combine this with a clue rally, making it better for your playing hand to find all the hidden cards) and then see who has the best hand at the end. You don't need manned check-points for this, either. Another thing (that we used to do with scads of motorcycles) was to just go somewhere several hours away for a picnic. We'd go to an exceptionally pretty reservoir (sp?) (Quabbin) and hang out & picnic for an hour with a two-hour ride each way! The fun was in the ride.
