Subject: how to repair top...

I am sending this for a friend...

	Seems as though his top has some "scratches" in it like someone
	tried to cut it with a dull knife and couldn't cut all the
	way through.  Is there a method to repair this, short of replacing
	the whole top?  By-the-way, there are two of these "scratches".
