Disclaimer: I do not endorse this method.

But this is what my father did with his Austin Healy 3000: take an
old sheet, place thumbtacks thru the sheet in rows, secure to sheet
with strapping tape. Place over top (points up) and secure corners
of sheet to convenient points on the body of the car. It only needed 
to be used for a couple of nights as I recall.
