The other option is to get a "sports cologne."  I have a cologne that is water
based essentially evaporates during a workout. You may want to try to find
some water based fragrances if you are worried about damaging the top.

Good idea.  For the more paranoid, consider putting the cover
on then putting the perfume on the car cover.  The point is to
get the odor to the site were the cats sleep ....
