     Please please please please please don't put bags of salt in your 
     trunk as weight because:
     
     1)      as mentioned, reduced ground clearance
     2)      poorer hill climing in slippery white stuff (I've tested       
             and it's REALLY worse with extra weight)
     3)      if the bag leaks you've got salt powder INSIDE YOUR TRUNK.     
             Would you carry flasks of HCl (hydocloric acid) in your        
             trunk?
     
     I shudder at the thought!
