Don't do it!! I used to put my top on and off alone.... holding it right
over my head and sitting into my car.

Well... I stopped doing that 2 wks ago... when I added three deep 
scratches to my trunk lid!! See... due to the weight of the top...
I tend to rest in on the car and then sort of drag it into place.
Usually, the rubber lining just glides across... but... if you get unlucky
the two black metal corners on the back-end of the hardtop will come
in contact with the smooth metal of your miata -> then sh*t happens!!

Just find someone to help you... well by offering a joy ride after
the work :)
