Well Miateers, I can't resist these threads: Regarding the issue of bass in music, I enjoy good music as much as everybody else, and even frequently that which includes a significant bass component. I do not however like to be annoyed by some of the [kids] (I have no idea how old they are) that drive around with their music loud enough for anyone within two blocks to hear. I have concluded that in many cases, these individuals are not playing their music for themselves to hear, but to attract others (either male or female, but most likely female... it's usually males playing music like this). In fact when I decide to turn my music up either because of wind noise or because there is a particular piece of harmony that chills my spine, I sometimes am aware that people around may suspect that I am exhibiting the same behavior. That bothers me. [Can you imagine that centuries from now, the anthropologists will identify one of the characteristics of 20th century man as using music to attract members of the opposite sex for mating... you know a sort of reverted mating ritual.] The "Speed-o-sound" offers a good option for music turned up due to wind noise, but I feel that it is way over-priced. I had considered this audio option years ago, and considered it a potential entreprenurial objective, but recognized the complexity which it entails. For the same reason, I recognize and accept the cost of the hardware and design, but still don't feel that it is cost effective. [I also didn't feel that it would be a good business venture since it had a realtively limited market and even less technical understanding.] Regarding the Borla exhaust sound: Now this is an interesting consideration, and a definitely an attractive sound at city speeds and short duration rides. I would really be interested in experiencing it for the long haul to see how [excessive?] it could become. I remember years ago when I had a '71 Pinto and decided to exchange the stock muffler for a less restrictive type. It was great even all the way from Wichita to Wheeling, at which point the joint let loose and the noise increase was unbearable. My wife and I survived (albeit with headaches) from Wheeling to Pittsburgh our destination. Is there anyone in the local are (DC) that has a Borla on their Miata that I could listen to?
