Subject: Miata Battery

I'm new to the list so I hope this hasn't been discussed recently. I have  
    a Miata from the first year they came out and I've enjoyed every minute
of owning it. Recently, I've begun to think about getting a new battery but
now find out that only the Mazda battery will work. Has anyone got any
other information about using an off the shelf battery? Or is it best to
stick with the Mazda battery? And is it truly worth that much more money?
