TM> What bothers me is that the oil pressure is now running significantly higher during warm-up and I believe just slightly higher during warm operation. Has anyone changed to Bosch filters and noticed this pressure increase? I am tempted to go get another Fram and put it on to verify that it is the filter characteristic. Tom, The high oil pressure is from using 5w30 oil. I've noticed the same thing when I used it in the winter time. I tried Castrol Syntec, but didn't mentally like the 5w50. I felt the range is just too great. The oil pressure gauge with 10w30 will be around 60~ when started from cold and 30~ when warmed at idle. I use Fram oil filters on the Miata and for the last 8 years on my old MR2. Fram oil filters has been one of the industiry leaders in oil filters. They trapped more smaller particles on the first run than most leading filters. Yes they do have a override valve. The number is PH 6607. I get it from Ames on sale for 2 for $5. Regular price is about $3ea. That's MUCH cheaper than the auto parts store who wants $4+ ea. I use the Bosch oil filters on my Probe GT. I can't seem to find the correct Fram filter for the Probe. The Bosch's sells for about $4ea at Trak Auto. Be aware of the cheap filters as they don't have the override valve and the filter paper will let smaller particle filter thru. I have my doubts about the quality of the Mazda oil filters... I'm just guessing that they contract out to a major company to produce it to OEM specs. I want something better than oem specs.
