Im Sitting here looking out my window on the first Sunny day in a month, reading the posts and thinking, wow Ill take the long way into practice today and enjoy the weather. Then I look out into the Driveway.. what the H*ll. There is a Ford Festiva where my car should be. Oh yea.. My Trans. Locked up Thursday, (15 months/45,000mi in Warr. YEA). Worse than that, if I want to go to the AutoX Sunday Ill have to bring the Ford. Blah. Hope it comes home soon. Ok. Now on to my question. The simptoms for my trans. (Manual - 92 Base) were as follows. I was backing up in a parking lot. When I went to put in first to go forward again it didnt move. It acted like it had the emergency brake on. Checked it. Nope that wasnt it. Well people wanted to get by so I tried to put it in R again to get out of there way. The Stick would not go further to the right than the 3rd/4th area. and would go into 3rd / 4th (or 5th and R for that matter.) ok.. put it in Nutral, turned it off and tried to push it. Wouldnt budge. got in and pushed the clutch in and it rolled (2 people pushed me out of the way.) Started it up and played with it. In the Nutral position it was in revers. In 1st or 2nd it seemed like it was in Reverse and 1st or Reverse and 2nd. Got it towed to the dealer and the mechanics didnt beleive my descriptions of the symptoms, so they tried everything I mentioned. When I talked to them Firday afternoon I found out 5th and R were shot and would be replaced. Ok.. HERE IS MY QUESTION (realy) Should I be concerned with my clutch after all this? does being in 1st and Rev. burn out a Clutch quickly? IS there a chance in H*LL that Mazda would pay for a new clutch even if it was caused by their Trans.? Jason - I Dont wanna autoX a Festiva.
