I've used the wooden ramp method for about a year, with no problems.
I have a "bottom board" that is about twice as long as the top boards.
All the boards (2" x 6") are nailed together in a staircase configuration.
The first board is narrow enough that the tires easily climb it, and
the weight of the car holds the entire assembly down as the car
climbs up the stairs.  I place the ramps so they touch the tires
before driving up, however.
