From: GOZUMM@JEFLIN.TJU.EDU Subject: Ending the Miata wave .... Date: Tue, 3 May 1994 22:16:10 -0400
For example. Saturday, nicest day of the year. 75 degrees, blue sky, top down, t-shirt, shorts and shades, 70mph down an "A" road (ie not a motorway). I see another red MX5, hood down, shades on etc in the inside lane so I blast up alongside (don't worry, it's dual carriageway), grin inanely and wave frantically. NO REACTION, absolutely bugger all. << In the early days, 1991, the Miata was so new, I just about had to wave to everyone.... stopped in a light, road side stands, the occassional Miatateer, other convertible-esers. I particularly enjoyed the bug eyed look of certain children who would stare out the back of cars, or side doors, which would lead to even more amazement when the headlights would wink up and down. However, convertibles weren't too numerous then. Now they're a dime a dozen, and the spirit and elan of the pioneering top-downers has yet to filter, or sadly travel, to the new top-down crowd.
