From: mikef@mer-mail.ctron.com (Michael Friedman) Subject: Visibility Date: Fri, 10 Jun 1994 17:04:30 -0400
I picked up my Miata (White '90 with "B" package) yesterday, and drove it 200 miles with the top down. What a blast. The car delivers what it promises! The problem: I am tall (6'2") and sit with the seat ALL the way back. This is comfortable, but places my head behind the side window. With the top up, I cannot see to the left (a little better to the right) to change lanes etc on the highway. The mirror does not adjust it's field of view enough to fix the problem. This blind spot is serious, especially as the top will only be up in lousy weather when visibility will be further limited anyway. My old Triumphs has triangular "corner windows" in the top to cure this problem. The Miata top is solid from the rear all the way around to the door window. (I notice the hard top's rear window wraps around to the sides, and look like it would cure most of my problem.) The question: Is there an aftermarket kit or modification to add corner windows to the Miata's soft top? Do others have this problem? If so - what have you done? My immediate "stop gap" cure will be a wide angle mirror added to the left door mirror (a K-Mart (no editorializing please!) item for about a buck). Thanks in advance for the input... Mike Friedman
