From: tom.manson@pobox.com (Tom Manson) Subject: (Soft)Top Alignment Pin Covers Date: Sat, 11 Jun 1994 22:28:30 -0400
Miateers, Today I discovered that the small cup-shaped alignment pin covers that accompany the latches are both cracked. One had already fallen off and the other will probably do so within a week or two. These pieces are attached by a single screw on the underside of the latch (you have to remove the latch assembly - three screws - to get to it). They cover the metal alignment casting which is part of the latch assembly and appear to provide some cushioning between the top half of the latch and the windshield-frame half. These small nylon (or some other nonmetalic) covers are specifically the surface that interface with the concave alignment depression that you see from your seat while your top is down and you are looking up at the top of the windshield. Now that I have inundated you with I can only describe as an explanation of what they are, does anyone know the part number of these devices. It appears that both sides would be identical but the local dealer cannot find the part listed in the microfische. They tried hard, but will have to call Calif on Monday for help. It would appear to me that these things go south pretty frequently considering the abuse they get. Has anyone had to replace them? Tom Manson
