I posted this question last week and unfortunately didn't get any responses.
In the '94 Product Registry (under "Miata Tips") it says

RUST POTENTIAL
Front inner fenders allow
debris to build up.
Disassemble and clean yearly.

By front inner fenders, do they mean the wheel well liners?  Has anyone done
this?  Has anyone found debris behind their rocker panels (as I have)?

By the way, I've been reading the Miata mailing list off and on since 1991.
After finally getting out of grad school, I bought a '91 BRG three months
ago (previous cars were an '83 RX-7 and '71 240Z).  I've only had to have
the top up twice so far while driving, and I'm going to my first autoX next
weekend :)
