My dealer << has them for 80 bucks. I borrowed a brand new bra from a friend of mine to use on my drive from Houston TX to Los Angeles CA along route 66 (nice drive :-) ). I didn't encounter any rain along the way, and the bra stayed on for the entire trip (two weeks) before removal. It was a stock Mazda part built exclusively for the Miata. I suppose it saved me from a few flying bits of gravel (and one road-runner for sure) but it was *NOT* worth the hassle encountered upon removal. When I took it off after coming home, I was horrified to see a black "scar" that the bra had buffetted into the white paint around the front of the car. it was darkest around the edges of where the bra was, but if you stood back a little, you could see a gray "tan-line" that covered the whole bra-area. Several hours of TLC and what seemed like a gallon of Meguires cleaner/wax later, all was well. I hate to think what would have happened if I'd have let it air out and "cure" that way. My buddy put the bra on his red Miata and drove it on the highway for a weekend trip to San Antonio... same thing. He returned it. I am happy to say that 14 months later, there is no scar on the front of my car that I haven't been able to remove with some of Meguire's best. Knock on wood, but I feel like there really is no reason to have a bra if you don't already. Looking around the roads, it seems like the bra fad of the eighties is finally gone... Lets hope it carries over to the beach! ;-) Ken. I had some problems with mine at first - the flange to the catalytic converter was welded at the wrong angle. borla sent me a new one free after I called. Beyond that, no problems at all - plenty of clearance with the differential, and the exhaust fits almost exactly in the middle of the cutout in the rear panel. Couldn't be better, nor could I be happier with it. Date: Tue, 31 May 1994 17:01:39 -0400 J Feionstein is wondering about a peculiar sound (like metal dragging) at certain points in the course acceleration. I had a similar problem, which turned out to be an inadequately welded heat shield off the manifold. Fixed under warranty and never a problem again. I've relayed a few of the problems people are experiencing to our systems people to investigate. A few people from off campus have succesfully accessed the miata.html file from the URL I posted last week, so I assume that something is working okay. I've had no problems using DOS, MAC, or Sun Mosaic to access it from within our network. This is a test site, the URL may change. Please don't add this URL to a public menu. (Of course you can add it to your hotlist or whatever) It should be available 24 Hours a day, 7 days a week. If my server administrator finds (and/or corrects) a problem with our server, I'll inform the list. The online FAQ will change (hopefully for the better) as I play with it. I'm not going to send a message every time I make a change, you'll just have to keep checking if you want to see what I'm playing with. (I should have access to a color scanner in the next week or so.) Hope those of you who this works for enjoy it. I'm really sorry about those of you who can't get it to work, we will try to make it happen. Brian Brian K. Maybe I don't know if this is relevant, but I disassembled my driver's-side window crank mechanism a few days ago and discovered that there is a clock spring inside. Maybe this is intended to somehow counterbalance the weight of the glass. I did not open things up enough to see if it could be wound tighter/looser, but it might be something to try. I only opened it far enough so that I could pack it with grease to try to stop it from rattling (it worked). It is been tried from Seattle to San Diego to Austin to Toronto etc. It does result ijn overheating unless you cut the grille mesh away - found this out while trailering in 100+ temps last summer. Last night there was a huge rainstorm in Austin (looked good on the Weather hannel radar). I usually hate driving in such weather as the Miata hates it. The SF325's required 2nd gear starts in any kind of rain. My (new to rain) XGTV4's performed incredibly, very little hydroplaning and able to launch at 5000 without wheelspin from stoplights. Dry grip is unnexceptional, but these tires are great in monsoons. Running on full tread 205/55 15, Michelin XGTV 4's on 15x7 wheels. May well be better in a smaller size Craig ============================================================================== >From archive-owner Tue May 31 23:36:40 1994 From: Al Staats Subject: Re: Borla exhaust Date: Tue, 31 May 1994 23:35:57 -0400 Jeff, you have already heard from Frank Potter, and maybe others but I'll add my two cents. I developed the Borla exhaust for the Miata, my car has the prototype that was used to build the jig. The system, of which I have direct experience with 153 units, has had generally very favorable response from owners. The fit, like all aftermarket systems is less perfect than a stock one piece system, but if installed properly, is good. It does come closer to the differential than the stock unit because the intermediate pipe has one less bend. It centers just slightly right of dead center in the rear but because of the more than 1 inch tolerence in stock catyltic converters, this will vary from car to car. Of course, by slightly rotating the muffler, this can be fine tuned. The finish of the system, which is aircraft stainless steel, is dull with a polished exhaust tip. The welds are strong and the integrity of the system is superior to any other on the market (including the new Remus system from Austria which we also sell, but is $200 more costly). All in all, the Borla is in my opinion, the best aftermarket performance exhaust on the market, particularly at the current selling prices offered by us and the other Miata Mag. vendors. ==============================================================================
