Well, if we're collecting data points, my experience seems to be exactly the same as Greg's (especially with regard to the sounds being worse when the engine is hot -- first time I tried that this summer, I thought something disasterous had occurred). I've gotten used to it, and I don't hear anything unusal after about 1-3 seconds or so. I certainly _feel_ it when the compressor kicks in while I'm driving, though -- and I have to make a conscious note to increase the revs a bit to compensate for the load when starting out in first gear, but that's another thread, I guess!
