OK, so I'm a little slow. Actually, I'm lazy. I had heard all this about gophers but never looked into it. Then I moved to a new job and changed to Netcom for Internet access. On my old system I could save all the daily Miata digests and nobody cared. On Netcom they got pretty riled after only a few MB piled up. Touchy touchy. So I deleted all the old digests and promptly needed to refer to one of them. I look in Andy's last monthly reminder for instructions on how to get to the Miata archives and there is Gopher. Time to learn. I type in "gopher jhunix.hcf.jhu.edu" at the Netcom prompt. I'm in, cool. Now Andy's instructions say choose "Academic Computing", but that's not one of the options. Turns out the right choices are: "HAC Software Archive and Other Free Stuff", then "mailing-lists" and then "miata". Once your in, you'll see Brian's FAQ, some GIFs, all the monthly archives and the current month/week/day messages. Once you see this you will never save another daily digest again. Now some of you will say "been there, done that", but the rest of you need to try it if you have gopher capability. Of course, ftp and WWW can also be used, but one thing at a time. It turns out I never did find the information I was looking for. I wanted to know how to change from daily digest to get each individual message. I thought I had seen something like that go by recently. [][][] Steve Ling 1993 Mazda Miata sling@netcom.com Lone Star Miata Club Plano, Texas Texas Region SCCA
