Eric mentions recent automotive newsmagazines concerning the future of Mazda models. In a recent private conversation with a Mazda North America executive, he told me that most of that automotive press report was accurate, except that the 929 will probably survive in one model only, no variations on the theme. Also quite startling news that the Navajo is being dropped, not because Mazda wants to, but because Ford will stop making the 2 door Explorer at the end of the 1994 model year. According to my source, Ford has the option of giving Mazda the 4 door Explorer beginning in 1995, but as of last week had not yet decided to do so. The new sports car continues to be rumored to be the Miata coupe; maybe that in the absence of the Rx-7, a rotary Miata? I wouldn't bet on the demise of the Rx-7, while sales have been low, Mazda has gained much corporate benefit from this latest rotary rocket.
