"Has anyone related this failure [radio power out] to getting rain on the 
radio at some point? Perhaps this problem surfaces after a little 
"incubating". A little water, a little heat, some steam,..."

Although I cannot dispute the primary emphasis of this theory, you 
must broaded your scope to include my data.  My radio has never been 
rained on and it quite regularly goes out on me.  But it lives in east 
Texas (100 miles nw of Houston) so you could argue that the air in 
the summer is not much different than rain...
