This is WRONG! 30 MPH in my '94 in third is about 2,000 (it's higher for the higher-numbered rear end ratio <= '93). 2,000 is certainly NOT idle speed. But as Alice noted, it is an RPM that doesn't make the car lurch as the engine comes up to match the speed of the tranny, assuming rev-matching is not done. Sorry for the confusion.
