Subject: Time:12:49 PM OFFICE MEMO CD skip, skip, skip to my... Date:8/1/94 RE: CD Skipping Well, I went out and plunked down some change for a 10-disc CD changer at Al and Ed's Autosound in Pomona, California. It's a Kenwood and I have it on good authority that those skip less than Sony's comparable model. Still, I've noticed some skipping and I was wondering what kind of skipping those of you with CD changers experience. Driving around the freeways in LA, I've noticed varying degrees of quality. Some sections of freeway give my stereo nothing but trouble, skipping 4 or 5 times within 4 or 5 miles. These aren't potholes and roadkill I'm hitting either. I am just driving over the normal joints and bumps found in freeway overpasses and the like. I don't expect my player to make it over the railroad tracks at 30 mph without skipping. Other sections of freeway are no trouble at all. I have my player mounted on the left side of the trunk horizontally. It is suspended above the space for the jack, tucked out of the way. The person who hooked it up has 13 years of installation and car audio experience. This guy was a friend and spent plenty of time working on it and I'm reasonably sure that it is the best installation he could perform. The store I bought it at didn't have a new Sony player with the skip protection, though. If this what you have and you don't hear any skipping, I'd be interested to hear from you. I'll be able to return the system without a problem and they'll install something different for me. Ultimately, I realize that my car is not built for a smooth, skip-free ride, but I want to know level of quality I can hope to achieve. Did anyone give up and remove their cd player because the skips were too annoying? Thanks in advance, Dan
