That happened to me also. Afterward, I noticed that there were little black rubber caps on the vertical bolts that attached the license plate frame to the body. I removed these caps, and put them over the bolts holding the plate to the frame (the ones about 1/4 inch away from the paint). I recently lost one, but they stayed in place for about 2 years. (I'm now looking for other --better-- "bolt-end covers" in Sears, etc.) Bob
