Miateers,
A friend of mine just got back from a business trip in CA and told me
that he and his travelling companion rented a Miata on this trip (he may
have been so motivated because of mine).  Anyway what they got was a car
with an auto trans.  He was really disappointed and described it as a
"dog."  He recognozed that the fault was not of the Miata in general
however, but more specifically because of the transmission.  He is a
long-time sports car buff with current ownership of a Fiat x1.9 and
an Alfa coupe.  His parting comment from our meeting today was "the
quickest way to ruin a good car is by an automatic transmission."  I
have to agree with the comment, but I know that ther are those of you
out there have your reasons for owning and enjoying your Miata/auto.  My
response to Dave should have been, "Better a Miata w/auto, than no Miata
at all!"  But I didn't think of it quick enough.  Then again, HE might
not have agreed.
