From: RTHORPE@MUNCH.GSFC.NASA.GOV Subject: Oil Change Date: Thu, 1 Sep 1994 11:32:10 -0400
After posting about Mobil 1 alternatives, we finally decided to splurge and used Mobil 10w30. Boy was that oil pan screw on tight! A few questions - In a car with only 8,000 miles and 3 oil changes (now 4) is there any reason the oil should have been black before we changed it ourselves. The last oil also got really thin before the change (needless to say we stopped driving when we noticed that). We're suspicious that some re-cycled oil was used by the QuickChange artists who changed the oil last time. Is there anyway to stop oil from getting on the engine on that sloped section below the oil pan bolt (hey I'm only the cheerleader for this oil change)? The car did seem really peppy today ( got up to 5,000 rpms before I noticed what gear I was in) but then again I drove my Ford Probe GL 400 miles yester- day and its not exactly a sports car! Thanks - Red Devil et.al.
