I'm sure others will give you the details on this, including
putting  a squirt of oil in cylinders, a rag in the intake and 
exhaust, etc. (or,  you could download a month worth of archives 
from the listserver from last November or December ))

In any event, what I do (in Buffalo in the winter) is not
to actually _store_ the Miata, but I try to drive it at least
once every 2-3 weeks.  I've successfully avoided taking it
out when there's snow or salt on the roads, but even under
the worst of conditions, you'd probably have a day here
or there when the roads were clear and relatively salt-free.
The down side is that you actually _have_ to run the car
for about 10-20 minutes every 2-3 weeks, or the battery
dies.  The good side is that you don't have to disable it, and
I find that it's good for my mental health to have the 
option to take it out in the winter if I want to (top down,
wearing my snow parka, -- probably getting the same looks
that the California people do when they drive top down
in the rain ).
