I've successfully avoided taking it out when there's snow or salt on the roads, but even under the worst of conditions, you'd probably have a day here or there when the roads were clear and relatively salt-free. The down side is that you actually _have_ to run the car for about 10-20 minutes every 2-3 weeks, or the battery dies. The good side is that you don't have to disable it, and I find that it's good for my mental health to have the option to take it out in the winter if I want to (top down, wearing my snow parka, -- probably getting the same looks that the California people do when they drive top down in the rain ).
