One answer to the question of 'where to put the amplifier' is behind the
driver's seat.  I have installed 2 systems in friends' Miatas and a
couple of big strips of Velcro will hold the amp nicely to the rug behind
the seat.  Granted you will have a bit of wiring to contend with and it
may be a little too accessible but that seems to be the location of choice
among members of our local club.
