From: geoff@dna.neusc.bcm.tmc.edu Subject: California convertible rentals - Mustang vs. Miata Date: Thu, 1 Sep 1994 18:14:57 -0400
I recently vacationed where I used to live: northern California. I went to Hertz, who gave me a choice of a Miata (automatic) or a Mustang convertible, both for about 200/week. I knew I NEEDED a convertible, but owning a manual Miata, I wasn't willing to disappoint myself with an automatic Miata. (Plus I needed some trunk space for all that wine I bought!) So I chose the Mustang. A powerful car, but boy am I glad I don't own one. The interior styling is just plain bizarre: the car looks like it's retaining water. The top totally sucks: it's motorized but our's didn't close properly (luckily it didn't rain). And worst of all is the handling: it feels like a giant (I mean large American sedan) car. BTW, in terms on top down vs top up, I did the same thing that I did when I lived in the area. Top always down (except in rain) and heater maxed out! Highly recommended for San Francisco "summers."
