All this talk about lighted mirrors finally motivated me to check
out something I've wondered about for some time.  Namely, if it
would be possible to use a mirror like the one in our SAAB 9000 in
the Miata.  Last night I took both mirrors apart enough to find out,
and it looks like its possible.  The footprint of the SAAB mirror
base is smaller and it mounts with 3 screws instead of 2, but both
use the same type of breakaway mount so I can probably come up with
some sort of hybrid mounting base.  The Miata snap-on cover for the
mirror base will also have to be modified to accomodate the wider
stalk of the SAAB mirror and to provide an alternate means of
holding it in place (velcro?).  I'll provide more details after
a successful expedition to a wrecking yard...
