I always thought that it was better to get the engine *real* hot
before draining the oil, so that more of the impurities would
be solubilized and removed in the hot oil, rather than precipitating
out in the cooled oil (and staying in the engine).  Have I been 
burning my hands for nothing all these years? 

Still, the leather glove idea sounds good.
