I'd say go w/NGK, if only because most car-tech people seem to always recommend them. Splitfires cost $4-$5 a pop right? They claim a 10% gain in mileage. The big three are always fighting to meet CAFE standards right? But I don't see them as standard equipment. If they gave that much more power/mileage gains, Indy, nascar, etc. would be all over them right? If two prongs is good, why not n-prongs? Same goes for slick snake-oil. I sometimes wish I was still an undergrad ME so I could do my senior project testing these "products." -Carlos ============================================================================== >From archive-owner Mon Oct 10 09:31:43 1994 From: usvv7w6n@ibmmail.COM Subject: plugs/plug wires/timing Date: Mon, 10 Oct 1994 09:30:55 -0400 -------------------- Mail Item Text Follows ------------------ To: INTERNET--IBMMAIL FROM: Randy Meyer USVV7W6N@IBMMAIL.COM (404) 563-6655 SUBJECT: plugs/plug wires/timing My Miata is over 30,000 miles now and I have recently done the 30,000 maintenance but have not yet changed plugs or plug wires. I am looking for some recommendations on plugs and wires. MCA seems to swear by Splitfire plugs but a lot of people on this list seem to use NKG's. Which are better and why? What about wires? Also, when I took my car to the dealer I had them set the timing at 14 degrees. I did not have any problems with 87 octane fuel and I will continue to use that. Maybe it's my imagination, but I did feel a very slight increase in power too. Thanks, Randy ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
