Well, Kate, I stand corrected RE: Roll bar padding and pipe insulation.
I've worked with pipe insulation many times in the past, and I'd swear by
looking, hefting, squeeze testing, etc., that it's the same stuff as roll
bar padding - or at least the stuff I bought at an auto performance shop
which was alleged to be roll bar padding.  But then, appearances can be
deceiving.
