Subject: Stripped lugs and studs

Howdy.  I have twice had a problem with stripped lugs and studs.
In 1992, I stripped a stud on a rear wheel.  The dealer had to take out
the wheel bearing to get to the stud.  The total price:  $125!!!
A new wheel bearing was $40 and there was an hour of labor involved for
the machine press work.  After that I started to use the thread lube.
   Well.... after a couple of years I got a little lazy and stopped
using it.  Four months later I stripped a lug nut.  Since I had a spare, 
I put it on.  
   The moral of this story:   Always use thread lube every few months
and always have a spare lug nut (about $2.00).
