Well I've finally put in a stereo! I installed a set of clearwater speakers a year and a half ago, and was impressed at the time to find speaker wires between a harness plug (behind the radio "blank") all the way to the footwells. How convenient. All I had to do was add connectors to the speakers and fabricate a weather-proof path to the door (thank you, Mr. Phone Repairman, for leaving all that wire and flexible tubing in my basement :-) Now the stereo's in (Thanks, Jyri. Piece of cake.), and I am pleased to find it's already wired for an antenna, too! Just plug in the stereo and bolt 'er on. Less than an hour. Next year, I think I'll get an antenna. It looks like it will be a 20-minute affair, tops, to plug it in and tighten the bolts. I am so impressed with those engineers at Mazda, thinking ahead like that. There's even these cute little plastic plug-blanks in the back of the radio-blank panel to hold the wiring in place when you have a base model with no radio. Although it did make me giggle to see all the wires plugged in to non-conducting plugs connecting nowhere to nowhere. And what an amazing difference in sound quality between the stock stereo/clearwater speakers versus my portable panasonic boom-box. And more room for passengers, too :-) Kate Base '91 Mariner Blue (now with cassette capability)
