From: "Alice T. Liu"Subject: Starting the car after sitting in the rain Date: Mon, 7 Nov 1994 18:18:26 -0500
I had a problem this morning starting my car, and I wonder if anybody out there might know why? It rained steadily all weekend. I started the car just once, on Saturday to move it out from under a big tree (I was a homebody this weekend!). This morning (it had stopped raining) the engine wouldn't turn over until about the fourth try. Usually I just turn the key and the engine starts with no problems at all. I opened up the hood to see if there was anything unusual, but as I'm not knowledgable about the mechanics of a car, the only thing I would have been able to identify would have been something super-obvious, like a dead animal crammed inside. I remember seeing something about brake rust after a car wash, or something like that, but I don't think this is the same problem. Is this something to be concerned about? For a car that's less than five months old, I would think it could handle a little rain. It came through fine after sitting in a garage for 5 weeks and outside for another week and being driven only twice while I was out of town.
