Has anyone attempted removing the dashboard of a Miata?

A friend,(without Internet access) has padded every available square inch 
with sound proofing.  Now he wants to add more padding at the firewall 
behind the dash and re-directing some wiring at the same time. 

All comments and advice will be forwarded...
