Apparently-To: RVFT60@email.sps.mot.com This message is for all my fellow/fella illiterates out there WRT the Mazda car cover. I hope my confession will spare others the pain I've suffered... After 3+ years, my car cover, which has never been out of my garage, was filthy ne'ertheless. I looked at the instructions, which I *remember* saying "Do not wash." So, I washed it. Well, I didn't use any soap; I went to the local laundramat and stuffed it in a triple-loader. Basically, an extended rinse and tumble ride with cold water. Ok, so far, so good. Take it out of the washer and go home...not. Don't want to put it all wet in the trunk of my new Intrepid, so I put it in the dryer... 25 cents for 10 minutes, cheap! I set it on permanent press (I'm no dummy). After ten minutes, still drippy. So, add 50 cents, bump it up to normal. With 12 minutes left...check it; still wet. 8 more minutes should do it. End of cycle, check it out. It had rolled into a tight little ball, and due to its mass, refused to spin. Instead, it sat directly over the heat for 1-8 minutes, and burned a hole all the way through to the core. "Swiss cheese car cover for sale, cheap!" FWIW. Dave '91 Red A DESDA2T (If IL would allow it) DAVE: I did as you did; washed my Mazda car cover (actually rinsed) after having it for about 15 months. I let it air dry (here in Arizona that's not too much of a problem) and, shortly thereafter, I began to notice "blue dust" on my car after putting it on and taking it off at the end of the day. It's almost as though the cover interior (that part which touches the car) is deteriorating; that condition continues to this day. I can't believe that my cover only lasted 2 summers, even here where it gets up to 120 or so. Could the rinsing have made that much of a difference? Mike Scott '93 Black C "MY ATA"
